The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) offers programs in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering leading to a Bachelor of Applied Science in either of these fields. Both programs commence in Second Year after students have met the requirements of First Year Engineering.
The undergraduate programs in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering are challenging and attract some of the university's best students. Each year, many of these students win scholarship awards. Our student design teams regularly win prizes in regional, national and international design competitions.
Approximately 875 undergraduate students are enrolled in our undergraduate programs. These programs consist of three eight-month academic sessions either following First Year Engineering or following a transfer program from First Year Science. Ordinarily, we admit 230 students into Second Year.
The Second Year of our undergraduate programs is common to both Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering. In both streams students have opportunity to specialize by entering an Option or can complete additional programs such as the Engineering Co-op Program.
Students in the Electrical Engineering Program can finish their degree through general studies or select one of three Options: Nanotechnology and Microsystems, Biomedical Engineering or Electrical Energy Systems. Students in the Computer Engineering Program can choose between completing the general degree or applying for the Software Engineering Option.
Note that those enrolled in the Commerce Minor may use only one of the COMM courses as a technical elective.
