Frankie AngaiFrankieA [at] ieee [dot] orgI am a Computer Engineering undergraduate student in my final year at UBC. I have always believed that student involvement in a club or team is a great way to learn many fundamental skills that are crucial in our industry, and also a good way to meet new people and make university life far more enjoyable. As a result, throughout my five years at UBC I've volunteered with the Engineering Undergraduate Society (EUS) as an Ex-Officio, the ECE Student Society as a 2nd-year Project Integrated Program (PIP) representative, and I am currently the IEEE Student Branch Chair at UBC. I also believe that UBC has an excellent Engineering Co-op program, as I have had the privilege to work with companies such as SAP, Research In Motion and Microsoft. |

Aryan Navabiaryan [dot] n [at] ieee [dot] orgI started my degree in Electrical engineering at UBC in 2006. Being a student in the Project Integrated Program, I was busy with courses and projects. However, apart from technical skills, I realized I had to build up my professional skills as well. Since I was familiar with IEEE, The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, I decided to join the IEEE student branch at UBC. The student branch includes student volunteers, some with higher positions to organize the branch, who plan events such as field trips, workshops, networking events, and other professional events. Currently I am working for a research group in physics. My plans are to gain some more experience by working with this group in the field of quantum devices. I then plan to continue my graduate studies abroad. As for my future plans, for now, I like to work in research and development at companies such as IBM which is a pioneer in quantum devices. |

Salma Farzimsfarzim [at] gmail [dot] comI am currently in the 4th year of the Electrical Engineering undergraduate program at UBC. I decided to pursue this degree as a compliment to my first Bachelor’s degree in Physics (2006) also obtained from UBC. I took part in the Project Integrated Program (PIP) in my second year at ECE and highly recommend this new approach to engineering education to anyone joining the department and seeking a more practical education. Although challenging at times, the program proved to be of immeasurable value when considering co-op positions. During my undergrad years, I have been involved with many student organizations, such as Women in Engineering club, Astronomy and Sailing clubs. I found these activities to be a great way of meeting like-minded individuals with similar goals and interests. I am also a member of the IEEE Student Branch at UBC. This endeavor has not only allowed me be more involved with student activities within the department, but to network with industry professionals as well. I hope you will join our department and experience the endless opportunities we have to offer you. |

Jennie Bharajjenniebharaj [at] gmail [dot] comHi! Have any questions regarding ECE? Feel free to ask! I am a third year Electrical Engineering undergraduate student, and loving every bit of it! Sure engineering is filled with some stress-inducing moments, but there are many resources in our department to get you through them! Like a lot of students in ECE, I know some of the struggles that a regular student can face – whether it is regarding academia, social change, or just the general ups and downs of student life. But who says we can’t be an engineering major and still have fun? I am passionate about the innovation of our modern world - from current technology to the bits of awesome that make the nerd in me blush. I’m also a gamer and a comic book fan by heart. Currently, I am part of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and have also volunteered for the ECESS (Electrical and Computer Student Society). This department is filled with a lot of cool opportunities. Take advantage of them! By joining extra-curricular activities and rewarding yourself with some time to relax, anything can be done! |

Adam Noeladamjgnoel [at] gmail [dot] comI am a 2nd-year MASc student in ECE's Data Communications Group. My research is in wireless communications, particularly cognitive radio. I am currently the President of the ECE Graduate Student Association (ECEGSA), so I am heavily involved in organizing events for ECE grad students. I am also an active member of the UBC IEEE Student Branch. I regularly participate in UBC's intramural running events and have enjoyed watching Thunderbirds hockey. Last year I was supported by an NSERC Canada Graduate Scholarship and also received the Hector J. McLeod Scholarship Award from the IEEE Vancouver Section. |

Caitlin Schneidercaitlin [dot] m [dot] schneider [at] gmail [dot] comI am currently beginning my second year as a Masters Student in the ECE Department at UBC, where I work with Drs Tim Salcudean and Robert Rohling. I completed my undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering at Johns Hopkins and my current work focuses on the integration of pre-operative data and intra-operative data into the surgical flow. As a result of my clinical focus, I spend a significant amount of time at Vancouver General Hospital, working directly with surgeons in the operating room. I am on the executive board of the Varsity Outdoor Club and spend most of my free time exploring the Canadian backcountry and kayaking. |

Angshul Majumdarangshul [at] hotmail [dot] comI am a PhD student in this department. My PhD research focuses on faster acquisition of Magnetic Resonance Images by leveraging state-of-the-art signal processing techniques. During my Master's at UBC, I worked on the problem of face recognition. I like UBC, and I believe it has the best University campus is the world! I love water sports and dancing. Vancouver in general and UBC in particular has more than enough scope for both of them. |
