Dr. Andre Ivanov, Head of UBC Electrical & Computer Engineering, was named UBC Engineering Co-op Faculty of the Year on March 6th, 2017.
Dr. Ivanov’s commitment to students and engaged learning is unsurpassed. He has accompanied Co-op coordinators on site visits and met with new ‘start-up’ employers to hear their ideas, thus facilitating student placement into mutually beneficial Co-op positions. Co-op Coordinator Pete Mackenzie has referred to Dr. Ivanov as a “Supermentor,” and the moniker certainly fits. Together with Darla La Pierre and Roberto Rosales, Dr. Ivanov has hired students for many departmental projects and research roles, creating a completely new category of project-based work term. For example, students were recently able to work with Rosales to create a series of simultaneously educational and entertaining safety videos for the department.
