Power Line Communications is in its second edition

Did you know ECE’s own Lutz Lampe co-edited the first book to cover the core principles and the state-of-the-art in power line communications? The first edition, published in 2010, became the main point of reference for researchers and people working in the field.

This field is rapidly evolving. The second edition of Power Line Communications introduces new material on PLC for home and industry automation, multimedia PLC systems as-well-as PLC for smart grid and PLC for vehicles. New international standards for high-date-rate, narrow-bandwidth PLC for smart grid and important innovations related to channel characterization, transmission techniques and regulation make the second edition a necessary update for this important text. With contributions from some of the most active researchers on PLC, the book brings together a wealth of international experts on specific PLC topics.

Professor Lampe and other scientists in the field of power line communications are pursuing this line of research because there are significant opportunities to increase the efficiency of our infrastructure by using existing power lines for a broad range of communications applications from smart grid to home automation.
