Project Fair Runner Up Design

Runners up at the EECE 375/474 Project Fair, Group 6, designed technology for a smart parking lot. Here are group members Zetong Zhang, Kevin Leu, Jacky Cheung, Usman Muhammad and Justin Bisal talk about their project:

“This project is a prototype of a smart parking system. Our final product is the combination of Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The motive behind this project is to efficiently control and monitor any type of parking lots, thus reducing the time required to find parking.

Utilize sensors, wireless communication and LCD’s with a Graphical User Interface to implement a Smart Parking System to reduce wasted time, CO2 levels, and accidents. This involves research of existing parking systems and their strategy to reducing the impact of the previously stated problems. Our idea is to implement a robust system that is both user friendly and safe.

When brainstorming on solutions of how to make large parking lots more efficient, we came up with two main parts. Part one involves providing the driver with more information regarding the vacancy status of the parking lots. Part two involves providing the parking lot administrator with a detailed overview of the whole parking system on a graphical user interface. By providing both the users and administrators of a parking lot with increased feedback information, people will be able to make calculated decisions in parking lot therefore helping increase the efficiency of the whole parking system.”

More information on their design is available on their group website.
