Admissions

What is the process for applying to the ECE undergraduate degree at UBC?

Prospective students interested in a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering apply directly into the Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) program, where during the first year students gain a broad understanding of engineering principles. If you are applying to UBC as a first year student, visit the following link on how to apply to UBC for first-year engineering: https://engineering.ubc.ca/admissions/undergraduate/how-to-apply

Our Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering (ECE) programs commence in second year after students have met the requirements of first-year engineering. After students have met the requirements of first-year engineering, students must select their program of choice to decide between Electrical or Computer Engineering, and must submit the Faculty of Applied Science Second Year Placement Form. All students need to complete this form no matter what program and option they are choosing.

What if I want to apply for the Biomedical option?

Please note that students interested in the Biomedical Engineering Option have an additional step: in addition to the second year placement form, they should also apply through our ECE placement form at the end of First Year Engineering.

If I have questions about applying to ECE, who should I contact?

For any questions, please contact ECE Student Services by visiting KAIS 5500 or by emailing help@ece.ubc.ca. Detailed program and course information can also be found in the UBC Calendar. Our student services staff have drop-in advising hours each week as well, but email is normally the quickest way to get in touch with us!
