Head’s Message

Welcome to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Whether you are part of the ECE community, in the process of joining, or looking to learn more, I welcome you to one of the most vibrate and inspiring places of learning and research in the world.

UBC is consistently ranked as one of the top 40 Universities by Times Higher Education and the Faculty of Applied Science is ranked the second-best engineering program in Canada by MacLean’s. The department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is an integral part of that. ECE is the largest department, with approximately 1,000 undergraduate and 500 graduate students, 48 tenure-track research faculty, 7 tenure-track teaching faculty, 11 administrative staff, and 10 technical staff.

Faculty and students conduct cutting edge research in biomedical technologies, communication systems, computer and software systems, emerging miro/nano technologies, and energy systems. This research has led to many positive advancements in these fields, demonstrated by the countless academic awards and generous NSERC funding.

Please explore our website if you would like to learn more about the research activities, academic programs, and people at ECE.

Warmest Regards,

Lutz Lampe, PhD
