Dr. Adrien Desjardins received his B.Sc. from UBC (2001), and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University (2007). From 2011 to 2024, he was a faculty member at the University College London, where he became Full Professor in 2019. Dr. Desjardins joined UBC in 2024, jointly appointed in the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Mechanical Engineering.
Dr. Desjardins’ interdisciplinary research is focussed on the development of imaging and sensing modalities and autonomous robotics, with marine and biomedical applications. This program involves close collaboration with industry partners.
Dr. Desjardins is the recipient of a Research Chair from the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Healthcare Technologies Challenge Award from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), as well as starting grants from the European Research Council (ERC), the EPSRC, and the Royal Society. In 2015 he was selected to be Young Scientist at the World Economic Forum. In 2013 he received the Provost Teaching prize from UCL.
