Advanced Topics in VLSI Design

Deep learning has emerged as an important technique for solving critical problems across a diverse set of applications, however VLSI architectures for implementing efficient learning systems remain an open question and active research area. In this course we will cover the advanced VLSI topics required when designing deep learning architectures, with a focus on VLSI design trade-offs, techniques and optimizations to create efficient and effective hardware acceleration of deep learning systems. Further, we will explore the latest optimized learning architectures and open research topics in this area. Students must have completed ELEC 402 or an equivalent fourth year VLSI course.
