Dr. Zhi Jin (Justin) Zhang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, Canada. He received the BASc degree in Engineering Science and the MASc degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto, and the PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.
His research aims to modernize electric power grids towards 100% use of power electronics, by developing and vertically integrating enabling technologies including advanced control algorithms and power electronic circuits. He focuses on the control, protection, and cyber-security of power-electronics-based power systems.
Dr. Zhang welcomes PhD and MASc applicants interested in power electronics and power systems.

Power electronics, grid integration of alternative/renewable energy sources and electric vehicles, high-voltage DC (HVDC) grids, microgrids, cyber-security in energy systems
