Robin F. B. Turner is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering as well as Electrical and Computer Engineering at UBC. Dr. Turner received his PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Alberta, in 1990 under the joint supervision of C.R. James (Electrical Engineering) and D.J. Harrison (Chemistry). His dissertation research involved biosensor technology development based on electrochemical methods. He joined the Faculties of Science and Applied Science at UBC in 1990 under joint appointments in the Michael Smith Laboratories and Electrical & Computer Engineering. Since 2004, he has also held an Associate Member appointment in the Department of Chemistry.

Dr. Turner’s current research activities include the development of optical techniques and related signal processing, data analysis and chemometric methods for biomolecular spectroscopy, as well as applications of this technology to research problems in biochemistry, biotechnology, and biomedical engineering. He is a member of the Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC) and the American Chemical Society (ACS).

Research Interests

Raman and resonance raman spectroscopy of biomolecules, fiber-optic-linked ultraviolet optical spectroscopies, spectroscopic signal processing and analysis.
