Sustaingineering

Sustaingineering empowers students to design sustainable solutions for real world problems. Through our projects, we innovate green solutions and create meaningful change for our stakeholders. ECE students gain hands-on experience working with renewable energy systems, PCB design, embedded systems, Internet of Things devices, and data acquisition, analysis, and presentation.

Sustaingineering prides itself on being an interdisciplinary team working collaboratively with other sub-teams to innovate. Our current project is the first prototype of a sustainable tiny home, the Sustainable Mobile Research Testbed (SMRT), which features a Hybrid Renewable Energy System (HRES) to store solar and wind energy for use in the SMRT project. The SMRT project also includes a Remote Monitoring System (RMS), which is a network of sensors used to collect information from all throughout the SMRT project.

HRES System

  • Solar maximum power point tracking (MPPT)
  • Power storage solutions
  • Power control systems, integrating solar and wind energy
  • Integration of the power system in the SMRT Project

RMS System

  • CAN bus for sensor data acquisition
  • Frontend web development
  • Backend database development
  • Integration from sensors to frontend
