Leo Stocco: Robots are “expanding abilities” of humans in skilled occupations, not replacing us

UBC Senior Instructor and biomedical engineer Dr. Leo Stocco was recently interviewed in the Vancouver Sun about the future of robotic technology in medicine.

While acknowledging that medically-oriented robots have tremendous potential to streamline surgeries and other medical procedures and can provide “a very big beneficial effect to the patient,” Stocco does not believe that this technology will ever fully replace doctors, nurses, or other medical professionals.
