Greg Rickford, Minister of State for Science and Technology, visited Prof. Servati’s lab today to announce NSERC’s Strategic Project and Strategic Network Grants. Prof. Servati is the principal investigator for two projects funded by these programs. On his visit to the Flexible Electronics and Energy Lab, Minister Rickford was joined by NSERC’s Chief Operating Officer Janet Walden, President Toope, MP for Vancouver South Wai Young, and UBC’s Vice President of Research and International John Hepburn.

Prof. Servati leads a research team that is finding innovative ways to leverage recent advances in flexible electronics. These flexible electronics can be used to incorporate solar cells in garments and drapery. They can also be used as wearable sensors to monitor the vital signs of patients. The recently announced NSERC funding will support both of these efforts.
