Rabab Ward – Paradigm Shifter Award

Congratulations to Dr. Rabab Ward, who was presented with the Paradigm Shifter Award by the Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST). SCWIST celebrated their 30th anniversary as an organization at a gala held at the Four Seasons. SCWIST is a society that was started in Vancouver that promotes, encourages, and empowers women and girls in science, engineering and technology; it has grown substantially since its inception in 1981.

The Paradigm Shifter Award is to honour a woman who has changed a previous idea or theory in science, engineering or technology. Dr. Ward has the distinction of being the first woman engineer in Lebanon and Zimbabwe. She was also the first woman to be appointed Professor in Engineenring in British Columbia, in 1981. The Paradigm Shifter Award recognizes the many important firsts Dr. Ward has accomplished throughout her career. Congratulations again for this exemplary achievement.

Dr. Ward was also recently awarded the 2011 Paz Buttedahl Career Achievement Award from the Confederation of University Faculty Associations of BC – this first time this award has been given to a professor in Engineering.
