ECE 375-474: Instrumentation and Design is a course offered at UBC that allows students to apply the knowledge they have gained into an innovative project based course. Students are challenged to develop an autonomous robot that must complete the task of entering a pre-made track and extinguish five candles. Rather than just gaining textbook knowledge, this project enables students to learn together and from each other, as computer and electrical engineering students work together and expand their application knowledge and communication skills. The task may seem daunting to students at first, as it combines power calculations, control systems, circuits and software; however, by the end of the semester the robot tournament is an opportunity for students to showcase their robots and display their individual and academic growth.
