Sarah Walinga awarded IEEE PES Scholarship

ECE’s Sarah Walinga was awarded $2000 from IEEE Power and Energy Society for her achievements in the power engineering field. She was presented the award by department head Dr. Andre Ivanov, and Dr. Marti also came up to personally congratulate her.

Sarah Walinga feels very fortunate to have been one of the first Canadian students to have been awarded. With co-op experiences at Intel, SunCentral Inc., and BC Hydro, and now a PES Scholar, she is confident in the future of her career, “[Power engineering] is going to be around forever; everyone uses electricity. There’s a lot of pride in knowing that what you do is making a difference… I already wanted to work in the power industry and this [scholarship] is just going to help me do that.”

The PES Scholarship is awarded to those that are a full time student working toward an electrical engineering bachelor degree, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and are considering a career in electric power and energy engineering. PES Scholars have access to career opportunities in leading industry companies. For more information: http://www.ee-scholarship.org
