Sustainable Power and Student Projects | Feb. 14

Jeff Giffin and Dianna Foldi from UBC Project Services will join us to discuss the Bioenergy Research and Development Facility. Two students who are currently completing their capstone projects at the facility will discuss their research. Naz Houshmand’s capstone investigates the benefits of voltage optimization & power factor correction at the building level and Yohan Jeon’s capstone considers the dynamic modelling of the Nexterra/GE Generator on UBC Campus.

Jeff Giffin is the Alternative Energy Manager for UBC Utilities and Building Operations. His role is to manage projects and coordinate developments that reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from the campus’s district heating system. Jeff holds a Masters in Clean Energy Engineering from UBC.

Dianna Foldi is a Project Manager for UBC Infrastructure and Development. Dianna will be discussing the motivation for the BRDF and the challenges of the project. She will also describe the Nexterra systems technology and ongoing opportunities for research, operations and industry collaborations.Dianna received her Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and in Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo.
