Lutz Lampe receives Best Paper Award at IEEE International Symposium

Professor Lutz Lampe, Ph.D. student Md. Jahidur Rahman, and postdoctoral fellow Dr. Hamidreza E. Saffar received the Best Paper Award at the 2017 IEEE International Symposium on Power Line Communications and Its Applications (ISPLC), which was held in Madrid, Spain, April 2-5.

Their paper, entitled “Characteristics of Power Line Networks: Diversity and Interference Alignment,” revisits the specifics of the power line communications channel and establishes their implications on cooperative communications over this medium. This topic has been a subject of intense research over the past years. Exploiting the underlying physical signal propagation characteristics, Prof. Lampe and his co-authors present new results about what is and what is not achievable when communicating over power lines. The insights and methodology developed in this work are of fundamental nature and have consequences for the meaningful design of cooperative communication schemes for power line networks.

IEEE ISPLC is the premier international conference on the subject and features contributions on communications theory, algorithms, standards, measurements, implementations, evaluation of field trials and network operation pertaining to communication via power line. The award-winning paper was applauded for its innovative and rigorous formalism and recommended as a must-read to the ISPLC attendees during the award presentation.

Congratulations to all!
